Emotional Quotient - Is it really there?

In today's corporate world, everything is time and money. To earn money the organization would need to hire "resources" so that they can work on the specified task and ensure that its completed within the defined time lines. If the task is not completed on time, then only god can save the "resources" from getting a bad performance rating, which will result in no hike/no bonus/less hike/less bonus.

I really tried hard to find if any of the dictionary would say that "resource" means "human", but I was unable to find any. As per my understanding, the global meaning of the word "resource" means -

a source of supply, support, or aid, esp. one that can be readily drawn upon when needed

So why do the corporate world treats human as resources?
Why the people are themselves not bothered about them being called upon as resources?

Have we got so busy in life that we just don't bother about who we really are?

By looking at the current scenario, I really feel that the Emotional Quotient is almost getting invisible in the corporate world. The Senior management teams are thinking about strategies on how to reduce attrition and how to retain the best resources/employees. But do we really have what it takes to retain the employee because end of the day, they are resources who can be hired when needed and fired when not needed. Do we really practice Emotional quotient at an organisation level (not on papers, but in reality)?

As corporates, we are really just bothered about getting people with very high IQ but we really don't see that we need to strike a balance by hiring people or managers with high IQ as well as EQ.

I know there are lot of my colleagues/friends who might not agree with me, but hey these are my thoughts!!!
